Visitors are shown the further processing of ore after its extraction in an 18th-century mine in the fully functional historic copper smelting plant with a stamp mill and smelter. The complete smelting plant with its stamping mill, bellows, and all three smelting furnaces with a cooking furnace are put into operation. The actual smelting process, starting with heating the furnaces, coating them with charcoal and copper ore, melting in the small blast furnace and cooking in the cooking furnace is presented according to 18th century methods. Visitors can watch how the smelting product flows out of the furnaces and then cools down into wild shapes. Beforehand, visitors can take a guided tour of the mine underground (with the "Mystallica" light and sound installation) and experience the painstaking manual labor that went into extracting copper in an early modern mine before it was transported to the surface for further processing.

Hearty brass band music, delicious rustic food, cool drinks, coffee and cake are of course also on the program of the smelter's day at the Düppenweiler copper mine.

The charcoal for the next melting day is already ordered

The mining parade of the Düppenweiler copper mine visited the Walhauser Köhlertage, which took place from August 18 to September 1 in the Nohfelden district now for the 8th time. With the local mining association, which wants to reopen the ore mine operated from the 15th to the 18th century, the Düppenweilerer namely already connects a friendship of almost 30 years. On the final day of the two-week charcoal days, the pile was opened and the new charcoal was harvested.  Chairman Werner Kockler has already ordered some of the charcoal for next year's charcoal-makers' day. At that time, copper is to be smelted again in Düppenweiler using charcoal from Walhausen.
