The Dom
From a certain depth, the miners also followed the ore veins in a horizontal direction.
To do this, they dug drifts and passages that were extended upward or downward, depending on the course of the ore vein. With their tools (mallets and irons) they cut larger mining chambers out of the rock, and if one of these mining chambers was particularly high, it was called a "dome". In order to be able to mine upwards, wooden platforms were erected.
