The tunnel system

In the meantime, almost 800 m of galleries in the copper mine are accessible again.

Over the course of more than 30 years, these were painstakingly excavated by hand. The backfill masses have been transported to the surface via reels.

The floor above the Wasserrösche is covered with wooden planks in most of the visitor mine and is therefore safe to walk on. Where permanent guided tours take place, the gallery passages are also continuously illuminated.

The gallery profile is mostly precisely carved out and has a width of 0.80 m and a height of up to 2.00 m. However, according to the main operating plan, visitors are not allowed to enter the mine without a helmet, because there are also numerous places in the tunnel system where it is necessary to bend down.
