Beckingen is idyllically situated at the beginning of the Haustadter Valley in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The slopes to the left and right of the Haustadter Valley differ geologically from one another and also have differences in altitude.
The "Panorama-Höhenweg" footpath leads across the plateau of the "Merchinger Platte" from Saarfels to the small village of Hargarten and offers visitors a magnificent panoramic view over 12 kilometres, including Views over Rehlingen-Siersburg with Siersburg Castle towards France; views over the Saar valley and further over the small villages of the Haustadter valley; and views over the northern Saarland with its highest point, the Schaumberg (571 m).
The trail leads through one of the oldest nature reserves in Saarland, the Wolferskopf with its orchards and numerous species of birds, grasshoppers, butterflies and plants, including 30 different orchid species and 20 wild rose species. The Wolferskopf also tells a story. Along the way, you will find some of the historic boundary stones that were erected in 1779 as the borderline between the archbishopric of "Kurtrier" and France, to which the Haustadter Valley belonged at the time.
