Museum bunker in Dieffler Straße in Düppenweiler
Back in 1992, the then Düppenweiler Culture and Heritage Association had the idea of restoring the Westwall bunker in Dieffler Straße and opening it up to visitors.
This bunker is part of the mighty Westwall, which stretched from the Dutch border to the Swiss border. Around 4,000 bunkers of varying size and importance were built in the period before the Second World War as part of the Nazis' ludicrous work creation programme. The bunker in Dieffler Straße has two crew rooms and a gun room and was never of any significance during the devastating war between 1939 and 1945. It has a special feature in the eastern direction with a massive covered slope protection, a corridor that today serves the museum bunker to document the painful history of Düppenweiler. Collector Ronny Zipko has lovingly furnished the bunker with countless original artefacts. Visits are possible by appointment (Karl-Rudi Wilhelm tel. 06832/7253). The Kultur- und Heimatverein Beckingen (Am Pfaffenkopf) and the Gebrüder Recktenwald (Haustadt) run other museum bunkers.
